Skin Care In Early Winter
As we know, winters can make our skin dry, itchy and irritated. Even the things that make the winter season lovely, like sitting in a bonfire, can dry your skin. Also taking shower with hot water dries out natural oils from the skin and thus leaves it dry. But there are many ways by which we can keep our skin moist, supple and hydrated all season long. This is basically done by making a few changes to our everyday routine.
- By using a humidifier : This will add moisture to dry winter air and make the skin hydrated. We can run the humidifier in every room like bedroom, living room etc.
- By limiting the shower time and temp : It may give a good feeling to take a long hot water shower. But this process will make your skin rough and dry also.
- Apply moisturizer well : We can maintain healthy skin by applying proper moisturizer including in our hands.
- By applying sunscreen : During the bright winter season, snow reflects the sun’s rays up to 80 percent according to skin cancer foundation which increases risk of exposure. That’s why sunscreen plays an important role in harsh winters.
- Eat right and stay hydrated : Sometimes when skin is very dry, it can be helped by foods and supplements that contain fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6 such as flaxseed and fish oil.
- Avoid harsh cleansers. A gentle cleanser like Shatdhoot Ghrita (Medicated Ayurvedic Ghee prepared classically), is a great option.
- Change out wet clothes quickly to avoid itchy skin. Wearing wet shoes and clothes can irritate our skin and thus cause itchiness.
- Buff your skin. It really does not matter how many serums and creams are applied on your skin, dry skin will stay dry without exfoliation. For those with raw or severely dry skin, they should skip the exfoliator.
Moisturizing skin everyday will reduce the chance of dryness or oiliness. Both terms are very harmful for skin and cause common skin problems like acne, pimples. Research shows that, the more hydrated skin, the younger it is.
When skin is dry, it cracks and becomes exposed to the environment. By this, skin becomes more prone to allergies and various infections. Moisturization helps the skin to bind various epidermal cells and allow them to stick together, so that they form a barrier against various harmful agents.
They provide various other skin benefits like softness, increased hydration of the skin etc.
