Kanchanar Guggulu

Description

Guggulu is an exudate (Niryasa) obtained from the plant Commiphora mukul . Preparations having the exudate as the main effective ingredient are known as Guggulu. There are five different varieties of Guggulu described in the texts. However, two of the varieties Guggulu are usually preferred for medicinal preparations. The first variety of Guggulu is dark greenish-brown and the second Guggulu is yellowish-brown in color.

Active Ingredients:

Kanchanar (bauhinia variegate) bark, Shunti (Ginger), Maricha (Black pepper), Pippali(Long pepper), Haritaki, Bibhitaki, Amlaki (the combination of Triphala), Varuna (Crataeva nurvala), cardamom, cinnamon, and Guggulu resin.

Special Method of Preparation

Kanchanar (bauhinia variegate) used here is for wet triturated with a fresh decoction of the other mentioned ingredients on a particular day and a particular time Pushya Nakshatra (cosmic rays) to enhance the properties of the herb.Bhavana(wet triturated) is used often in Ayurvedic formulations to increase the potency and for size reduction(micronized powder) so that the efficacy of the herb gets enhanced.

Fine powders of all drugs are added to the Guggulu and pounded well. Ghrita is added to the extent required when pounded to form a mass.
