There can be many reasons and risk factors responsible for abnormal changes in the cervical cells of women which can lead to the occurrence of such serious cancer –
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
The presence of this type of virus in women is considered to be a major cause of cervical cancer. This virus spreads among women through unsafe sexual activity. This rapidly spreading virus exists in more than a hundred forms which can cause Some forms affect the female reproductive organs. Two types of this virus, human papillomavirus 16 and 18, are most likely to cause cervical cancer.
Underage sex
If women have sex before the age of sixteen, they have a higher risk of getting this cancer. Having sex at an early age increases the number of sexually transmitted viruses in the body of these women, which causes cervical cancer. .
Sex with more than one person
If women have sexual relations with more than one person in their life, then they often have a higher risk of getting infected with the HPV virus, which increases the risk of this cancer.
Early pregnancy and multiple pregnancies
If women conceive under the age of sixteen and become pregnant repeatedly, they have a higher risk of developing this cancer.
Weak immune system
Women who have low immunity, their body is unable to protect themselves from infections like HPV, STI, due to which they remain at risk of getting cancer.
Long-term use of birth control pills
Women who take birth control pills for five years or more may be at risk of this cancer.
Sexually transmitted infection
Women infected with other STIs, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV/AIDS, have a higher risk of cervical cancer.
Smoking
The risk of this cancer is also higher for those women who smoke more and who have the habit of smoking cigarettes for a long time.
Cervical cancer prevention
There are very few cancers which can be completely prevented if known. There are many precautions women can take which pose a risk for this cancer –
Symptoms of cervical cancer
There are no symptoms of any kind in the initial stages of this cancer, hence women should keep getting regular screening done so that it can be detected. The symptoms which start appearing as this cancer progresses are as follows –
Abnormal bleeding starts from the vagina of women. This bleeding can often occur during or after sexual activity, in between the menstrual process and after menopause.
Types of Cervical Cancer
There are mainly three types of this cancer which are as follows –
Cervical Cancer Stages
Depending on how serious this cancer has become and how far it has spread, it is divided into four stages –
First Stage: In the first stage, cancer remains in the cervix only and does not spread outside.
Second Stage : This stage means that the cancer has started to spread beyond the cervix and is growing into the surrounding tissues.
Third Stage: In the third stage, cancer spreads to the tissues outside the cervix and spreads to the lymph nodes, pelvic line and abdomen.
Fourth Stage: In this last stage, cancer has spread to the bladder, lungs and intestines.
